I wasn’t looking for a spiritual poem, but yesterday I was clearing out a drawer in my lounge and came across a piece of paper. It was one half of a flyer and I nearly threw it out. But when I turned it over I recognised how special it was straight away. I knew that handwriting and it was obviously a piece of poetry. Now this person had sadly passed away last year and towards the end they would not have been able to write so neatly so this must have been written well over a year ago, perhaps a lot longer. We used to host meditation meetups in this room and so it could go back many years. Whenever it was written isn’t so important because the spiritual message in this poem is timeless. I had a strong sense that this poem was to be shared; a way that this departed spiritual teacher can still teach and inspire, even today. It’s a simple poem and knowing how humble that person was it was written from the heart in the moment and then placed in that drawer and forgotten about, never intended to be seen by others. I hope it brightens your day and illuminates your way. Shared in the manner it was written, with love, and to show respect and gratitude to the author. – Mark

Deep down inside
Deep into stillness
Where there is nothing to do
And nowhere to go
I release all thoughts.
I am at peace.
Light and love sustain me.
Last night I hosted an online get-together with fellow spiritual folk, many of whom knew and loved the author of this poem. So at the start of the meetup I read it out to them and many of them were visibly moved and found themselves becoming stiller and more present. At the end of the meetup I asked everyone to close their eyes and I read it out again. It’s simple but moving (in a good way). I hope it inspired you. Feel free to share your own poems about spiritual stuff in the comments below. Or you could even send me them by email and I’ll read them out on the live show! – Mark
